The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has approved the use of Computer Based Test (CBT) for the conduct of the Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates scheduled for February 2024, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement released by the council’s Acting Head, Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, on Monday, the examination body revealed that arrangements have been concluded for the CBT exams.

According to her, the innovation is in line with global best practices, and members of the public must comply with them in order for it to be a success.

It also stated that the move is part of efforts by the examination council to modernise its operations and to secure its exams, as CBT is expected to reduce the risk of cheating and make marking and releasing results easier for them.

The council also noted that it is its vision to conduct all its examinations via computer in the near future.

Adesina also explained that the objective tests for the examination will be fully computer-based, while the essay and practical part of the test will be hybrid, as the questions will be displayed on the screen while candidates will write their answers in the booklets given to them.

She added that the examination would be conducted in urban centres/cities, noting that candidates who have special needs and disabilities have been factored into the plan.

She also disclosed that registration for the examination will commence on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, while the examination will begin in February 2024.

In line with the new innovation, the examination body charged prospective candidates to hone their computer skills so they can perform well with the new system.
