The Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja, has sentenced a cashier identified as Tunde Abdulramon to five years in prison for defrauding his employer of N64,420,900.

The cashier reportedly stole the money to marry a new wife and to also open the same kind of business as his employer for his new wife.

The convict, who was employed as a cashier for Prime Grocers International Limited, a company involved in the sale of wholesale and retail consumer products in the Oke Arin area of Lagos State, allegedly diverted N64,420,900 from the company to his personal and business accounts.

News About Nigeria learned that the convict was arraigned on August 19, 2013, on 11 counts, which bordered on stealing and fraudulent false accounting, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

During the trial, Abdulramon denied the allegations levelled against him, pleading that he was not guilty of any of the charges.

However, in her judgment, Justice Raliat Adebiyi, who found Abdulramon guilty, ordered him to return all the assets he acquired while working with his employer, together with all the money he stole.

The judge also explained that the convict ensured that he deleted all the invoices of payments made to the company and diverted the money to both his personal and business accounts.

The court, therefore, sentenced Abdulramon to two and a half years based on counts one to nine and another two and a half years based on counts 10 and 11, making it a total of 5 years.
