In a collaborative effort between the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the distribution of essential relief materials has commenced to assist victims of the 2023 floods in Sokoto State.
The distribution, which began on Tuesday, aims to alleviate the suffering of the residents of the Kebbe Local Government Area who were severely affected by the floods.

The Information Officer of SEMA, Abubakar Abdullahi, released a statement on Wednesday announcing the commencement of the distribution.
The initiative is intended to provide essential food and non-consumable items to those affected by the flood.
Nasiru Kalambaina, the Special Adviser to SEMA, represented by Mustapha Umar, the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, urged the beneficiaries to use the provided items judiciously.
During the flag-off ceremony, the Sole Administrator of Kebbe Local Government Area, Sanusi Kebbe, expressed gratitude and appreciation to Sokoto SEMA for facilitating the prompt provision of relief items by NEMA.
Beneficiaries of the relief materials also commended NEMA and the state government for their timely response and assistance.
Additionally, a joint team comprising SEMA and NEMA operation office conducted an assessment of areas affected by banditry incidents in the Sangi, Ungushi, Girkau, and Margai wards of the local government area.
The assessment revealed that more than 200 households were affected by the banditry incidents, with a significant number of casualties.
Sole Administrator Kebbe praised the joint team for conducting the assessment, while Umar expressed his condolences to the affected communities on behalf of the state government.
The agencies plan to compile a report on their findings and submit it to the relevant authorities for further necessary actions.
The assessment was witnessed and coordinated by Kabiru Garba, the Director of Finance at SEMA, while NEMA Sokoto’s head of operation was represented by Aminu Ambursa.
