IG Restricts Movement in Lagos, 25 Others Over Saturday's Bye-election

Ahead of the November 11, 2023 governorship Elections in Imo State, the Inspector General of Police has deployed 15 Commissioners of Police, 29 Deputy Commissioners of Police and 40 Assistant Commissioners of Police to oversee the election in the state, News About Nigeria reports.

The Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, who disclosed this, also noted that they are ready for Saturday’s election.

He also revealed that 36 units of mobile police personnel were also deployed to the state for the election.

The command’s spokesperson also stated that the commission will ensure that they are neutral in order to ensure a free, fair, and credible election devoid of election violence.

This, according to him, is also geared towards deepening democracy in Nigeria through their own primary assignment as law enforcers.

He revealed that a Deputy Inspector General of Police would be in charge of the election and would be assisted by an Assistant Inspector General of Police because the state’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Barde, has been redeployed to the force headquarters by the Inspector General of Police for neutrality sake.

He also explained that the 40 Assistant Commissioners of Police deployed to the state will head each division in the state during the election, as the current divisional officers will not be in charge of their divisions.

Okoye also stated that the mobile police deployed to Imo will be joining forces with their counterparts in the state during the election.

He, therefore, urged the people of the state to be law-abiding as they exercise their franchise on Saturday.
