Ogba City Mall in Ikeja and Ajah Market in Eti-Osa, Lagos State, were closed by the Lagos State Government on Sunday.
News About Nigeria gathered that the Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority and the State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences, carried out this operation due to various waste disposal offences.
In a statement by the Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Folashade Kadiri, the enforcement team not only sealed off the mall and Ajah market but also cleared shanties and buildings of illegal traders along the Ajah Jubilee Bridge and BRT corridor.
The Managing Director of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, urged traders and corporate stakeholders to take action to maintain a clean and healthy workplace.
Speaking on the development, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized that the seal-off was a continuation of the administration’s efforts to combat filth and indiscriminate waste disposal by markets and business facilities around the state.
According to him, the various agencies in collaboration are intensifying their efforts to enforce the current administration’s zero tolerance for filth and reckless waste disposal by traders and business facilities.
He noted that business owners have been repeatedly warned and cautioned to expect repercussions if the necessary actions are not taken to maintain the environment.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration will not relent in its pursuit of this important objective for the greater public good,” he said.
He also mentioned that the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed that the zero-tolerance campaign is an ongoing effort, urging markets and business stakeholders to take steps to ensure clean and hygienic premises.
