Senator Shehu Sani has condemned the presidency for the purchase of a yacht for defence purposes.

News About Nigeria reports that the senator took to his X handle to express his displeasure, stating that a yacht cannot be a priority for Nigeria’s defence needs.

According to him, the Nigerian troops on the front lines are complaining of a lack of adequate basic weapons and even food to eat, noting that the presidency could have purchased drones or operational vehicles instead.

The former activist asked the Navy to clarify the magic behind Tampolo and his men achieving success on the high seas without the use of billions of naira worth of yacht.

He further said that there are a lot of lies around the purchase of the presidential yacht and urged the presidency to be truthful and put the welfare of the nation first.

However, former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, claims the presidential yacht was ordered by the Buhari-led administration and not Tinubu.

According to him, the yacht had been delivered to the country since June.

Nigerians have reacted to the purchase of the yacht and the claim that it is for defence and not the president.

An X user,  Ugwueze Chijioke, commenting on the move, said, “Everybody is just looking for a way to grab their own share of the national Treasury; what are they doing with it at this critical economic crisis.”

Another user, @Joedesign23, said, “They’re just twisting the narrative, they want us to believe that Nigeria’s Navy will be using it, which is not true. The question we should ask is, what will they be using it to do? Is yacht built for combat or luxury? What’s the security threat that warrant the use of luxury yacht?
