Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has condemned the controversies sparked by the purchase of a yacht by the president.
News About Nigeria gathered that the minister registered his displeasure at the attitude of Nigerians at the close of the three-day Cabinet Retreat held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Friday.
According to him, the yatch was not intended for the President’s personal use.
He Noted that the mischaracterisation of the President over the purchase of the yatch was as a result of the way the Navy presented it, noting that the President has no need of a luxury yacht as purported as “he is happy with all he has achieved in life, and personal comfort does not matter to him.”
He maintained that President Bola Tinubu is a modest and humble man, stating that the President lived in a three bedroom apartment before he was elected president.
Defending the allocation of a large percentage of the budget to defense and security, Bagudu emphasized that the funds were important in enhancing national security.
According to him, the president during his campaigns emphasized the urgency to tackle insecurity in the nation and was therefore not a surprise that 30 per cent of the supplementary budget is for the defense sector.
The minister maintained that President Tinubu is someone who sticks to his plans stating that this was an attitude of countries that achieve growth.
The Presidency had on Thursday clarified that the item for the Nigerian Navy was not for President Tinubu’s personal use
