The senator-elect for Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, has accused Kogi State Governor Yayaha Bello of sending his henchmen to assassinate her during the state’s senatorial election held in February.
Making this allegation while appearing on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Ms Akpoti, who contested the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged that supporters of the governor wearing vests of the All Progressives Congress attacked her vehicle. She said she had video evidence to back her claim.
“I heard guns; I had his henchmen shoot at my vehicle; I have video evidence of that. It was the immediate past; they were adorned in APC shirts and one of them was Amoka; he was actually the returning officer for Okehi local government. He led the group of ten men to shoot at me, I have the video captured in that,” she said.
Her comment came just a few hours after the Court of Appeal declared her winner of the Kogi Central senatorial district election that was held in February.
News About Nigeria recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere as the election’s victor on February 25.
In her petition to the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kogi, Akpoti-Uduaghan contested Ohere’s election victory announcement.
She asked that she be declared the election winner since she had the most legitimate votes cast, among other reliefs.
The court, however, ruled in her favour on Tuesday, declaring her winner of the kneely contested senatorial election.
