Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have carried out an arrest of 72 students of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
News About Nigeria gathered that the raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was carried out in the early hours of Monday.
According to reports, the early morning raid was on two major off-campus hostels in Ile Ife town, and the students and their vehicles were taken to the Ibadan office of the commission.
OAU’s Students’ Union President, Akinremi Abass, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the leadership of the union is on the way to Ibadan to get more details about the early morning incident.
It was further gathered that the female students of the school were not excluded from this raid as they were part of those arrested by operatives of the anti-graft agency.
Speaking on the situation, the Head of Public Affairs Department of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Command, Olumide Egbodofo, while confirming the raid on the school, said an update would be given on the incident, as the public duly noted.
“A press statement will be released regarding that soon,” Egbodofo said.
Meanwhile, the OAU spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, has yet to speak on the incident of the arrest amid calls for intervention from students of the institution.
The students have, however, called on the management of the school to intervene in the matter, stating that the arrested students are innocent and have done nothing to warrant a raid from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
