The Niger State Police Command has detained 14-year-old Joy Afekafez in connection with the death of Dr  Funmilola Adefolalu, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna.

News About Nigeria reports that Joy, the suspect, was the dead lecturer’s housemaid.

On Sunday, the deceased was murdered at her home in Minna’s Gbaiko Area.

The suspect was detained on Monday night at around 9:00 p.m. at a house in the Gbeganu neighbourhood of Minna on suspicion of culpable homicide, according to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun.

According to Abiodun, the suspect admitted that she worked as the deceased’s housemaid for roughly three weeks before being fired for committing wrongdoing in the home during questioning.

After the suspect was fired, he explained, she met Walex and Smart, two of her classmates, told them about her ordeal, and they planned to attack the lecturer at her house.

After being unable to reach the deceased by phone, the PPRO went on to say that on Sunday, a few friends and congregations paid a visit to her home in the Gbaiko Area of Minna.

The church where the late pastor served, Voice of Mercy Ministry, has now expressed shock and sadness over the news.

The church added in a statement issued by Pastor Bolaji Olanipekun, Head of Media and Communications, that the horrific deed had a significant effect on their congregation and that they were all determined to see the pastor get justice.

The church urged the investigating security services to do everything within their power to bring about justice.
