President Bola Tinubu defended his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday amidst allegations that he sells appointments to the highest bidder. He expressed absolute confidence in Gbajabiamila’s integrity, News About Nigeria reports.
The President made this statement just before the commencement of this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu responded to a report that had surfaced two days prior, alleging that his Chief of Staff lacked integrity because he had been “trading off” appointments in Tinubu’s administration to the highest bidder.
He further warned individuals spreading such lies about Gbajabiamila to desist from doing so, noting that any changes in appointments were made by him. He acknowledged that he, like everyone in the country, can make mistakes, and when he does, he takes responsibility and corrects them. He emphasized, “Perfection is of God Almighty.”
According to the report that emerged, some of Tinubu’s loyalists are allegedly calling for Gbajabiamila’s impeachment due to allegations of selling appointments to the highest bidders.
The report further disclosed that, since the beginning of President Tinubu’s administration, Gbajabiamila had been replacing some of the names of individuals approved by the President for appointments with his own choices.
One example cited in the report is the replacement of the name of the Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) with the name of a former commissioner under the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.
