FG Explains Samoa Agreement, Says It Will Benefit Nigeria

The representative of Borno South on the floor of the Nigerian Senate, Ali Ndume has advised President Bola Tinubu to introduce an executive order mandating rich Nigerians and other civil and public servants to reveal the sources of their unexplained wealth.

Making this call while appearing on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Sunday, Mr Ndume disclosed that he had made several unsuccessful attempts to move the motion on the floor of the Nigerian Senate.

His renewed call comes in the wake of the revelation made by recently retired Supreme Court justice Musa Muhammad Dattijo regarding the prevalence of corruption within Nigeria’s judiciary.

Senator Ndume stressed that there is a serious problem with unexplained riches in the nation, especially among public servants and politicians, and that this needs to be addressed by legal action.

“I have made several attempts, but there were various obstacles, I believe the most effective way to tackle this issue is for the bill to originate from the executive branch. In the interim, the current president should consider signing an executive order on unexplained wealth,” Mr Ndume said.

He went on to emphasize that some politicians, particularly those with political clout like ministers, are subject to the same circumstances and occasionally see a notable rise in income following their election to office.

News About Nigeria recalls that Justice Dattijo had, in his farewell message to the Nigerian judiciary, expressed concerns regarding rising corruption in the country’s judiciary system.

Senator Ndume urged the public to hold politicians accountable, reiterating their responsibilities as public servants.
