Former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has been slammed with a $10,000 fine for violating an order not to criticize court staff.
Trump’s remarks to reporters during a trial pause on Wednesday were found to have breached a partial gag order that had been issued three weeks prior, according to Judge Arthur Engoron, who imposed the fine.
News About Nigeria recalls that on October 3, after Trump criticized the judge’s chief law clerk in a post on his Truth Social site, Engoron placed a limited gag order on him.
Although the errant post was taken down from Truth Social, Trump was fined $5,000 by the judge last week for failing to take down the post from his website during his 2024 presidential campaign.
Trump stated that Engoron is a “very partisan judge with a person who’s very partisan sitting alongside him, perhaps even much more partisan than he is,” which led to the most recent fine.
Trump’s legal team claimed that the former president was not referring to the court clerk who sits next to him, but rather to witness Michael Cohen, a former attorney for Trump who is now a fierce opponent.
When the judge brought the former president to the witness stand for a brief explanation, he reiterated that he was referring to Cohen.
Following Trump’s speech, the judge declared, “The defendant was not credible,” and the fine was levied.
Shortly after, Trump exited the courtroom suddenly.
In order to obtain better bank loans and insurance terms, Donald Trump, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nominee in 2024, and his two oldest sons are charged with misrepresenting the worth of the Trump Organization’s real estate holdings.
Although the ex-president has frequently denounced Engoron and referred to him as a “Trump-hating judge,” the gag order imposed on October 3 only directed that insults on court employees cease.
