The Nigerian Senate, during a session in the Senate Chamber, confirmed Mister Musa Aliyu as the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
News About Nigeria gathered that Musa Aliyu, a lawyer, and the Attorney-General of Jigawa State, was formally appointed as the chairman of the ICPC on Thursday.
The screening and confirmation process took place in a closed session, lasting nearly an hour.
The Senate also confirmed the appointments of Saka Bolaji Suleiman and Prof. Gaji Dantata as members of the Federal Judicial Service Commission.
Upon his confirmation, Musa Aliyu, highlighted the need to transform the approach to addressing corruption.
He expressed his commitment to transparency, firmness, and humility in the fight against corruption. Aliyu further pledged to trace assets related to corruption and ensure they are returned to the government or the victims of the crime.
He emphasised the importance of conducting thorough investigations while avoiding unnecessarily shaming individuals.
Aliyu has a strong legal background, including holding the position of Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019 and being designated as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in October 2023.
He also holds master’s and doctorate degrees in law and has a track record of implementing significant legal reforms during his tenure as Attorney-General.
The Senate’s confirmation of Musa Aliyu and the other appointees aligns with the request made by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who wrote to the Senate urging a speedy confirmation of his appointees.
The appointments represent another step in the ongoing efforts to address corruption and improve the justice system in Nigeria.
