Former Anambra State Governor and the presidential candidate of Labour Party at the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi has called on the Nigerian Judiciary to always uphold the country’s value system.
News About Nigeria recalls that Justice Robin Knowles of the Commercial Courts of England and Wales ruled in favor of Nigeria in an ongoing case between the country and P&ID, stopping the enforcement of the award which was initially in favor of P&ID.
Mr Obi said the ruling was a lesson to the Nigerian Judiciary in particular.
Obi emphasized that every lawful society is built on a strong value system of justice, urging the country’s judiciary to protect the country’s value system.
“Every lawful society is built on a strong system of justice, and every democratic society exists on the principle of the rule of law. In handling the identity crisis, electoral disputes, and many high corruption cases that have bedeviled our nation, the judiciary has a bounding duty to protect our dear nation’s value system,” Mr Obi said in a tweet via his official X handle.
His comment comes just as the Supreme Court gears towards ruling on petitions brought against the election of President Bola Tinibu by Obin and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
Recall that the apex court had earlier fixed today, Thursday, October 26 to rule over petitions brought by Atiku and Obi against the election of Mr Tinubu.
Atiku and Obi had approached the Supreme Court after the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu.
While some political analysts have commended the apex court for its decision to swiftly rule on the petitions, other have accused the Supreme Court of plotting to shield President Tinubu from move by the FBI to release indicting files.
