Over 108 stranded Nigerians in Niger Republic have finally returned to the country, News About Nigeria reports.

On Tuesday, the Federal Government received 108 Nigerian migrants who were stranded in Niger Republic.

The Southwest Zonal Coordinator of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Mr. Alexander Oturu, disclosed their return in a statement issued in Abuja.

According to the commission, the Nigerians repatriated from Niger Republic comprise 32 males, 29 females, 44 children, and three infants.

Mr Oturu further explained that these migrants are currently accommodated at the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency camp, where they will stay temporarily until they receive transport allowances to proceed to their final destinations.

He stated, ‘The migrants were conveyed to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency camp, where the NCFRMI and the International Organization for Migration have a tripartite agreement to provide temporary shelter for the returnees. They will receive onward transportation allowances to reach their final destinations.’

Mr. Oturu also mentioned that their return was facilitated by the Nigerian Mission in Niamey and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Furthermore, he disclosed that, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the returnees will be integrated into various government programs to help them as they reintegrate into Nigeria.

He added that, apart from the programs offered by the Nigerian government, they will be supported through other initiatives, such as the reintegration programs of the United Nations (UN) Migration Agency.
