The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Imo state chapter, stated on Monday that blackmail from opposition parties against Governor Hope Uzodimma cannot stop his re-election in the forthcoming November 11, 2023, governorship poll, News About Nigeria reports.

The party, therefore, warned the opposition parties to desist from such an insensitive strategy of hate against Uzodimma.

Jerry Chukwueke, the Director of the Imo APC Campaign, who issued the warning, also disclosed the kickoff of the campaign starting with the federal constituencies in the state.

He expressed that opposition parties engaging in the use of insecurity for their campaign were insensitive because they were de-marketing the state and scaring away potential investors.

In his words, “We will not be blackmailed by anybody. The other governorship candidates who aim to win the election by scaring people away using insecurity will not succeed. This approach is harmful to our state. Let me make this clear: blackmail using insecurity will not work.”

He further explained that opposition political parties resort to violence and insecurity because they lack substantive issues to campaign on, in contrast to his party, which is interested in big projects that will develop the state.

Chukwueke also revealed that the party recognizes the “Imo charter of equity,” which is a political agreement designed to ensure fair and balanced representation in the governance of the state.

Speaking further on the Imo Charter of Equity, he explained that they are committed to it. Together with stakeholders in the state, they have agreed that it is now the turn of the Orlu zone, followed by the Owerri zone, and subsequently, the Okigwe zone.

He also noted that people from different political parties are embracing the Imo Charter of Equity because it is expected to bring peace and stability during elections in the state.
