Cordelia Okonye, the grieving mother of Austa Osedion, who was brutally murdered by her boyfriend Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo, widely known as Killaboi, has disclosed the details of how the murderer was apprehended in Sierra Leone.
News About Nigeria reported that Killaboi, the prime suspect in Austa’s murder case, was apprehended in the early hours of October 21 in Sierra Leone.
Austa was murdered on July 13, and within two weeks, Killaboi had acquired a Sierra Leonean passport.
Cordellia Okonye revealed that after murdering her daughter, Killaboi heartlessly left her lifeless body and seized her phone before fleeing.
He began reaching out to Austa’s family, feigning remorse and expressing his willingness to turn himself over to the authorities.
Killaboi even went as far as claiming that he killed Austa in self-defence. Austa’s family encouraged him to surrender to the police, urging him to let the authorities investigate the matter.
However, Killaboi later blocked all contact with Austa’s family and began spreading unfounded allegations that Cordellia Okonye had been exploiting her daughter.
According to Cordelia, she enlisted the help of her family and friends to trace Killaboi. She shared his passport photograph with her contacts worldwide and provided them with a distinctive identifier: a tattoo on Killaboi’s body.
Eventually, a cousin of Cordellia in Sierra Leone reached out, claiming to have spotted someone who looked exactly like Killaboi in the country. He was able to provide details that led to further investigation.
Her son and another cousin travelled to Sierra Leone to pursue Killaboi. During their stay, the Nigerian police declared Killaboi a wanted man, prompting him to go into hiding, making it increasingly difficult to locate him in Sierra Leone.
Their efforts eventually led to a break in the case. Cordelia’s cousin in Sierra Leone met with the Commissioner of Police and presented them with Augusta’s remains and Killaboi’s photograph.
The Sierra Leonean police initiated an operation to capture the fugitive and their investigation led them to a hotel where they discovered that Killaboi had recently been a guest.
The hotel’s white manager confirmed Killaboi’s presence but disclosed that he had already vacated his room. The manager provided them with a printed copy of the suspect’s passport, revealing a new identity, Kanu Princeton Samuel.
However, he was eventually arrested at 2 a.m. on October 21.
Cordelia shared the emotional relief of seeing her daughter’s killer finally apprehended.
She said that Killaboi, who once boasted that he would never be handcuffed, was ultimately brought to justice. Cordelia expressed her gratitude for the support received in her quest for justice.
