Nigerian Afrorave sensation Rema’s hit track, ‘Calm Down’, has wrapped up a remarkable 57-week journey on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, achieving a historic milestone in music history, News About Nigeria gathered.
Chart Data, the music monitoring platform, has lauded the accomplishment, recognising ‘Calm Down’ as the lengthiest-charting and most successful African song to date, surpassing the previous record held by Wizkid’s ‘Essence’, which charted for 35 weeks.
‘Calm Down’ made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 2022, about seven months after its initial release.
The track reached a remarkable peak at the third position on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100, setting a new standard for Afrobeates artists as lead performers.
The involvement of Selena Gomez on the remix also contributed to its global appeal.
‘Calm Down’ has broken numerous records, including being the most-streamed Afrobeats song on Spotify and the first African artiste-led track to reach one billion streams.
It spent a year on the Billboard Afrobeats chart, with its YouTube video amassing 673 million views, the most by a Nigerian artiste.
This achievement has propelled Rema into the elite league of Afrobeats artistes, with the song winning the inaugural Best Afrobeats Song award at the MTV VMA Awards.
