The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of two suspected internet fraudsters at the residence of Nigerian musician John Njeng Njeng, popularly known as Skales.

News About Nigeria reported that EFCC had initially denied allegations of invading Skales’ home.

In an official statement released on the EFCC’s official platform, it was disclosed that the two suspects, identified as Udemba Chukwuemeka (alias Jody) and Jamal Jamiu Onasola (alias Jamal), were apprehended at Skales’ residence.

They are suspected of being involved in a dating scam and have reportedly referred to Skales as their ‘mentor’.

Chukwuemeka had been residing in Skales’ home for two years, while Onasola had been there for only a few months.

The EFCC stated that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded into their alleged involvement in the dating scam.

The confirmation of the arrests comes after Skales had earlier claimed on social media that EFCC officials, accompanied by armed individuals, forcefully entered his residence by breaking the back door while he was asleep.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale had initially refuted Skales’ claims, emphasising that EFCC officials do not conduct operations in the manner described by the singer.

“Number 1, we don’t invade. Number 2, we don’t conduct any raids. Number 3, there are ways and rules to identify a regular EFCC operative.

“So, to all intents and purposes, all of his claims, they are totally removed from what an EFCC operation looks like,” he said.

Oyewale also suggested that the incident might involve impersonators posing as EFCC officials.
