Manchester United’s midfielder Antony has been given the green light to resume training and is now available for selection.

This decision comes on the condition that he will keep cooperating with the ongoing police investigations into the allegations of domestic abuse, News About Nigeria understands.

In a press statement, Manchester United said the player will continue to offer useful information to the police, as regards the allegation, as he has always done. “Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so.”

Antony recently returned to the UK from Brazil, where he was facing some questioning on the said allegations. It is noteworthy that he has not been charged following the investigation by Brazilian authorities.

Meanwhile, Manchester United said they are committed to safeguarding all individuals involved in the situation, while maintaining their stance against acts of violence and abuse.

The club also acknowledged the impact that such allegations can have on survivors of abuse.

“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case”.

“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse,” the club said.

Antony’s case will be the second sexual/domestic abuse related cases faced by the Old Trafford team in less than a year. The first was with the now Getafe player Mason Greenwood, whose return to professional football has brought mixed reactions among fans.
