Abia Commissioner Reveals Strategic Plans To Address Security Challenges

The Abia State Government has unveiled a strategic approach to combat security challenges within the state, News About Nigeria gathered.

Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, made this announcement during a press briefing at the Government House in Umuahia on Tuesday.

He emphasized that the government’s primary goal is to address security concerns effectively while fostering a safe environment conducive for investment.

Kanu said that the state has experienced some level of peace since the inception of the current administration, revealing the administration’s commitment to preserving peace and stability within Abia.

He explained that Security is a fundamental aspect of the government’s “rebuilding” agenda, and that the administration is making deliberate and strategic investments to address security challenges.

By enhancing security and creating an environment conducive to business growth, the government aims to attract investors and generate employment opportunities for the people.

“We believe that through that strategy, people will be gainfully employed, and issues of insecurity will be reduced,” Kanu said.

He further highlighted the government’s commitment to combat criminal activities, particularly kidnapping.

Retired Navy Commander Macdonald Uba, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Security matters, added his voice that the Otti government is committed to eradicating all forms of criminality within Abia state.

Uba noted the importance of security for the overall development of Abia, stating that it is a vital part of achieving excellence in all aspects. He also mentioned the progress made in addressing security challenges since the inception of the administration.

One of the notable initiatives mentioned was ‘Operation Crush,’ launched by the government to address insecurity. Uba explained that the program has yielded positive results.

Additionally, he said that the government has taken action by demolishing criminal hideouts in Lokpanta and initiating a campaign to install streetlights to eliminate potential criminal hideouts within the state.
