Why Buhari Is Staying Away From Abuja – Garba Shehu

Muhammadu Buhari

Garba Shehu, a former aide to erstwhile Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why the former president chose to stay away from Abuja after his 8-year rule.

Making this disclosure in an article titled ‘One Hundred Days After Buhari,’ the former presidential spokesman explained that the former president also kept his distance to enable him to have a good rest and care for his farm which he had neglected while serving as the country’s president.

“He chose to stay in Daura to be far away from Abuja in order not to distract the new APC administration and in the hope also that the distance will make it possible for him to have a good rest and to care for his farm which had not received as much attention as it needed while he was away,” the article published on Mr Shehu’s X account read in part.

He further detailed that the immediate past Nigerian president visited his farm four times a week.

News About Nigeria reports that his remarks contradict the pervasive notion that there is animosity between the outgone president and his successor.

Many have argued that President Bola Tinubu’s most recent decision to target senior public office holders is evidence of the breach between him and his predecessor.

Recall that President Tinubu established new MDA boards after removing the ones Buhari had chosen. Additionally, President Tinubu had detained key figures from the previous administration, including the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Ememfiele, and the EFCC chairman.
