Super Falcons Defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, Joins Saudi Arabian Club Al-Ittihad

Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has officially signed with Saudi Arabia Women’s Premier League club Al-Ittihad Ladies, News About Nigeria reports.

This announcement was made through a video interview posted on the club’s social media handle, accompanied by a warm statement “Welcome to Al-Ittihad Ashleigh Plumptre.”

Plumptre’s journey to Al-Ittihad comes after three years at Leicester, where she contributed her bit with 62 appearances for the club. Her move follows the expiration of her contract with the English club, marking a new challenge in her footballing career, in another part of the world.

The 25-year-old expressed her joy, having completed the move to one of Saudi Ladies’ top football clubs. She shared her feelings on her social media account, stating, “Grateful to have signed for Al-Ittihad.

“Excited to start this journey alongside some incredible human beings. My journey of stepping into more of myself continues… It’s more than football,” she added.

Meanwhile, in her first interview with the club, Plumptre revealed her expectations as Al-Ittihad.’s new player. She said, “Football is for me about connecting with people, not only more about myself, but the people I am surrounded by, whether that be my teammates or staff.

“I don’t come here with any expectations, I come here being myself, and I hope that I can learn and take so much from the environment as a football player, but more importantly, as a human being and I am already feeling that. I am just looking forward to getting the journey started with this team and seeing what we can achieve in every aspect,” she concluded.

Recall Plumptre was among the Super Falcons players who represented Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, featuring in all four of Nigeria’s matches in the tournament.
