The Minister of Works David Umahi, has expressed his disappointment with the quality of work on certain road projects during inspections, News About Nigeria reports.

In a meeting with contractors in Abuja on Wednesday, August 23, the minister criticized the subpar work done on the Abuja-Lokoja road and the Lokoja-Benin road.

Umahi did not mince words as he voiced his concerns, stating, “I have inspected about eight projects on the Abuja-Lokoja roads and was disappointed with what I saw.

How can you collect money to do something and not do it right? Do you people fear God at all? We must do work for the people instead of ourselves.”

He further highlighted the consequences of substandard road construction, emphasizing the need for quality work.

Umahi mentioned a recent flood overflow incident that resulted in a one-week disruption, affecting vital supplies such as medical emergencies, food, and petroleum.

The minister stressed the importance of designing roads with a forward-thinking approach, suggesting the use of ramps to elevate certain sections of roads to prevent such disruptions in the future. He also urged contractors to adopt concrete pavement for the country’s road construction.

Umahi’s stance is said to be in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s campaign promise to improve road infrastructure across the country.

Umahi, the former Governor of Ebonyi State, boasts of the reputation he built during his days as a Governor, alluding to his standard of road construction.

Recall that Umahi, with other Ministers, totaling 45, was recently inaugurated into their respective offices and a few of them have made headlines since then.

Most notable being the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, who recently, approved the demolition of 6000 structures in 30 districts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
