Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has ordered Abuja metro station contractors to complete the Abuja Light Rail in eight months.
Wike, who inspected the light rail from the metro station to the Abuja airport, advised the contractors, Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company CCECC, that they should shorten their one-year schedule for completing the vandalised segment of the project to no more than eight months.
Noting that he is pressed for time, the minister stated that Abuja citizens must instantly sense the government’s presence.
“This is a good project. This is one of the projects that we will hurriedly complete and put to use. The funds are available and I have directed the Permanent Secretary to pay the contractors,” Wike said.
“People can only have confidence in the rail if the existing one is working, we will make this route work before we talk of another route,” he added.
Known for his no-nonsense approach to governance, News About Nigeria recalls that Wike had while assuming the office of the FCT minister vowed to bring drastic development to the country’s federal capital.
The minister vowed to take down buildings to ensure that the federal capital gets the development it deserves.
Minister Wike, as previously reported by News About Nigeria, has begun efforts to destroy slums in Garki, Jabi, and 28 other areas. Members of the opposition party, however, have continued to warn the former Rivers state governor that he cannot handle the affairs of the federal capital territory in the same way that he handled Rivers.
