Nigeria’s reigning World 100m hurdles champion and record holder, Tobi Amusan begins training at World Athletic Championships, News About Nigeria reports.
Amusan arrived in Budapest, Hungary, in preparation for the 19th World Athletics Championships, which begin today.
Following World Athletics’ clearance of Amusan of charges related to three whereabouts failures, she is now set to commence training.
Amusan’s journey to Budapest began when she left her base in Atlanta, USA, at 11:30 PM on Thursday night, arriving in Paris, France, the following morning, before landing in Budapest in the evening.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has arranged a special room for Amusan in the Athletes Games Village, allowing her to focus on her event scheduled for Day 4 of the championships.
Amusan’s clearance opens the door for her to defend her World Championships title, adding to her impressive list of titles, which includes Nigeria, African Championships, African Games, Commonwealth Games, and Diamond League victories.
A tribunal consisting of three arbitrators absolved Amusan of two out of the three missed tests, arguing that the tester had not put forth sufficient effort to locate her.
Throughout the process, Amusan consistently maintained her innocence, declaring herself a clean athlete.
In a Facebook post last month, she expressed her faith that the matter would be resolved in her favor, allowing her to compete at the World Championships in August.
Credit is due to AFN President Tonobok Okowa, Technical Director Samuel Onikeku, and Secretary General Rita Mosinde for their foresight in ensuring that Amusan’s name was included on the main list of athletes submitted to World Athletics before the deadline expired.
As Amusan prepares to compete on the world stage, Nigerian athletics enthusiasts eagerly anticipate her performance and the potential for further international success.
