Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Kingsley Moghalu has congratulated the newly appointed minister of health Ali Pate on his appointment.
Congratulating the health minister in a tweet on Thursday, Mr. Moghalu expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly appointed minister of health.
According to Mr. Moghalu, his appointment was timely as the country currently lacked social infrastructure.
“Congratulations to my good friend and brother Professor Muhammad Ali Pate @muhammadpat on his appointment as Minister of Health and Social Affairs of Nigeria. Health is a critical – and lacking – social infrastructure in Nigeria. I have high hopes for his performance,” Mr Moghalu wrote.
News About Nigeria recalls that Mr. Pate was on Wednesday night appointed as the country’s minister of health. Mr. Pate is one of the technocrats appointed by President Bola Tinubu.
While many have continued to criticize the President Bola Tinubu-led government for appointing individuals without experience however the president has received commendations for appointing Mr. Pate who many believe to be the right man for the job.
His appointment comes as President Tinubu seeks to revive the country’s health sector. Recall that many Nigerians have continued to criticize Nigerian politicians for spending huge amounts on foreign medical trips.
There are hopes that the appointment of Mr. Pate’s ministerial appointment will bring development to the country’s health sector.
Mr. Pate has a demonstrated history of considerable leadership in the field of global health and managerial expertise in both the public and private sectors.
He possesses technical knowledge of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, a track record of forging meaningful and long-lasting strategic alliances, experience in operational management and execution in a variety of nations within the context of multilateral development, and leadership skills at the highest levels of government.
After a successful tenure as Executive Director/Chief Executive of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), where he played a crucial role in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative’s efforts in Nigeria, he served as Minister of State for Health in that country for two years.
Prior to working for the Nigerian government, he held a number of positions with the Washington, DC-based World Bank Group in its Africa and East Asia and Pacific divisions.
