According to News About Nigeria, the fight happened on Tuesday following Emefiele’s admission to bail of a total of N20 million by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
In addition, the judge required that Emefiele remain in custody until his bail requirements were met.
Nevertheless, following the court’s decision, DSS agents drove around in a way that suggested they intended to return Emefiele to their custody.
A struggle broke out when the prison guards attempted to take Emefiele into custody and were challenged by the DSS. The latter was eventually granted custody of Emefiele by his lawyers.
In a statement, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), criticized the fight and urged the two agencies to take appropriate disciplinary action.
The association called the fight “a recipe for anarchy and chaos” and said it showed “brazen disrespect for the sanctity of the court premises.”
In order to establish professionalism and assure synergy in the fulfillment of their respective constitutional obligations, the NBA also called for a full transformation of the two institutions and a total reorientation of their personnel.
The statement partly read, “This incident regrettably is further evidence of the lack of discipline and absence of professionalism that continues to plague key security institutions in Nigeria, which, without doubt, is largely responsible for the limited progress in achieving a coordinated response to security concerns across the country.
“The NBA calls on the two agencies to take immediate disciplinary measures against the officers involved in this disgraceful conduct.
“In addition, there is an urgent need for a complete overhaul of the institutions and a total reorientation of the personnel, to achieve professionalism and ensure synergy in the discharge of their respective constitutional responsibilities.”
