Vandals targeted the Social Democratic Party (SDP) head office in Kogi, causing significant damage and destruction to the premises, News About Nigeria reports.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning at around 10:15 a.m. at the Paparanda Roundabout in Lokoja.

Thankfully, there were no reports of any fatalities resulting from the attack.

Mr. Sam Abenemi, the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the SDP, expressed his shock and disbelief at the incident when speaking to reporters in Lokoja.

He condemned the act as both wicked and uncalled for, emphasizing the concerning direction that the gubernatorial election campaign in the state was taking.

Abenemi further expressed his apprehension regarding the current state of political campaigning.

He believed that campaigning should revolve around canvassing for votes, but the recent events have taken a frightening and unfortunate turn.

The attack on the party’s office was carried out by suspected sponsored hoodlums, who not only vandalized the premises but also set fire to certain materials.

The Deputy Governorship Candidate firmly stated that such malicious acts would not deter their participation in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 11.

He encouraged the people of Kogi to exercise their democratic rights and participate fully in the electoral process.

Abenemi urged them to make their own choices regarding who should govern them and not allow any unpopular candidate to be imposed upon them.

In light of the incident, Abenemi called upon the security forces to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

He insisted that the perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice to prevent any recurrence of such heinous acts.

The SDP representative’s appeal for justice echoed the sentiments of those who believe in upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring the safety of political processes.

The Kogi Police Command’s Spokesman, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, confirmed the vandalism incident.

He assured the public that the police were actively investigating the matter, with the aim of apprehending the culprits responsible for the attack.

At the time of his statement, no arrests had been made, but the authorities were determined to bring the hoodlums to justice.
