Young Nigerian chef, Damilola Adeparusi, popularly known as Chef Dammy, has announced her ambitious plan to unseat Hilda Baci and set a new Guinness World Record with a 150-hour cook-a-thon.
News About Nigeria reports that the determined 22-year-old chef aims to showcase her culinary skills by performing a non-stop cooking spree for an astounding 150 hours, according to Nigerian Tribune.
In a press conference held in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti state, Chef Dammy expressed her determination to break the current record.
She also acknowledged the support she has received from various stakeholders both within and outside of Ekiti state.
As a 300-level Mass Communication student at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), she is ready to embark on this challenging feat to make her mark on the culinary world.
Interestingly, this announcement comes shortly after Chef Dammy denied initially aiming for a Guinness World Record.
In a statement on her official Facebook page, she clarified that her intention with a previous 120-hour cook-a-thon was to test and push her own culinary abilities, rather than specifically aiming to break any records.
“I stated this earlier that I embarked on this journey to test my capability not for any GWR.. l am happy that I cooked for 120 hours. I am proud that I never gave up,” she said.
Despite facing criticism, she expressed her joy in persevering and not giving up on her passion.
“I know the question that has been surrounding the minds of many people online and offline is what is next for Chef Dammy after the 120-hour cook-a-thon? What will become of Chef Dammy after the world has known her and she has been put in the spotlight? Well, Chef Dammy is open to exploration! I am open to new opportunities and new experiences in life. Now that the world knows what I am capable of doing. I think it’s high time everyone started giving me a chance to explore in diverse ways and capabilities.
“Finally, I know there have been many speculations about me not registering this just-concluded cooking, but my team and I have decided to embark on this new challenge next month.
“After the support, I have received from fans, well-wishers, and many highly notable individuals in the society. I, Adeparusi Damilola popularly known as Chef Dammy and my team has decided to hold another cook-a-thon programme next month.
“This time, it will be held for a 150-hour, and it will be duly registered with Guinness World Records. Chef Dammy is coming back!” She added.
