Labour Party (LP) leadership has distanced itself from one of its elected members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah, due to his remarks praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement released on Friday, Obiora Ifoh, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of LP, clarified that Ogah’s views on President Tinubu do not reflect the party’s position and are solely his personal opinion.

After a meeting with Tinubu regarding the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, Ogah expressed his delight, stating that he had underestimated Tinubu’s intelligence and readiness to serve the country.

He praised Tinubu’s love, character, charisma, and belief in Nigeria’s potential to become a better nation.

He also mentioned that the meeting would lead to a more stable house and that they were aligned with the government’s decisions.

However, the Labour Party spokesperson emphasized that although Ogah, as a first-time lawmaker, has the right to express his views as an individual, his statements do not represent the party’s stance.

The party’s views differ significantly from what Ogah was quoted as saying.

The spokesperson stated that while Ogah has the right to his personal opinions, he cannot claim to be speaking on behalf of the Labour Party or align his views with the party’s principles.

The party is currently pursuing its mandate, which was allegedly taken away during the presidential election held on February 25.

The Labour Party remains confident that justice will prevail and that their rightful victory will be recognized.

The Labour Party spokesperson clarified that their disagreement does not stem from any personal issues with President Tinubu.

Instead, they are challenging the election process and the final outcome.

They believe that any path to the presidency must be characterized by excellence, and anything falling short of that would undermine the democratic process.

Addressing the party members who were offended by Ogah’s viral interview, the spokesperson urged them to remain calm.

They assured the members that Ogah has expressed regret for his actions and had unreservedly apologized to the party.
