The glitz and glamour of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) were reportedly marred by the presence of hustlers and runs girls at the 2023 edition of the prestigious award show.

Similar to the previous year’s event, where such occurrences were observed, the trend seemed to have persisted during this year’s AMVCA. News About Nigeria gathered.

The AMVCA is renowned as one of the most significant nights in Nigerian entertainment, celebrating the best talents in the film industry across Africa.

Celebrities from all corners of the country gather to showcase their fashion choices and honor the achievements of Nollywood.

The 9th edition of the awards ceremony took place on Saturday, May 20, at the renowned Eko Hotel.

However, according to reports from Vanguard, the presence of hustlers and runs girls became apparent, with their activities seemingly overtaking the ambiance of the event.

The publication highlighted that the number of guests outside the convention center venue far exceeded those inside the sold-out show.

Troubling instances were witnessed, such as hustlers approaching Nollywood veteran Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, as he was returning to his room after the event.

The hustlers allegedly beseeched him for financial assistance and persistently followed him even as he sought a safe space.

It was only when he blended into the crowd that they finally retreated.

Meanwhile, Multiple award-winning filmmaker, Elvis Chucks, has described as surreal the recognition of his movie, Jewel, as the Best Movie Southern Africa at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, thanking his fans and vowing to continually strive to do better.
