The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has locked up a property belonging to Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), located in Makurdi, Benue State, News About Nigeria reports.

The reason for the closure was due to Ayu’s failure to provide relevant documents related to the property’s site plans to the agency.

According to an anonymous source, the sealed property is an academic institution.

However, the Special Adviser to the PDP Chairman on Media and Publicity, Simon Imobo-Tswam, denied having any knowledge of the situation and pledged to investigate further.

The sealing of Ayu’s property came shortly after a Makurdi High Court postponed the hearing of the case seeking to remove Ayu as the National Chairman of the PDP until April 28, 2023.

Justice Kpochi, the presiding judge, withdrew from the case, citing a national assignment at the elections petitions tribunal.

He announced that he would return the case file to the Chief Judge of Benue State for reassignment to another judge.

It should be noted that Ayu was suspended by the PDP executives after a vote of no confidence was passed against him.

On March 27, 2023, an interim order was issued by Justice Kpochi, based on an ex-parte motion filed by a PDP member, Conrad Utaan, restraining Ayu from acting as the PDP National Chairman pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

Despite efforts to obtain clarification on the situation from the NESREA coordinator in Benue State, Daniel Iormough, no further information has been made available at this time.
