A Saudi lawyer, Nouf bin Ahmed, has sparked controversy by calling for the deportation of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from Saudi Arabia.
Ahmed has vowed to file a complaint against the Al Nassr forward, accusing him of making obscene gestures during a match against Al Hilal on Tuesday.
News About Nigeria gathered that the incident in question occurred during a heated match where Ronaldo was seen almost getting sent off for putting an opponent in a headlock.
Al-Nassr ultimately suffered a 2-0 defeat to Odion Ighalo’s Al-Hilal. As Ronaldo walked off the pitch, there were chants from the crowd in support of his rival, Lionel Messi.
Allegedly provoked by the chants, Ronaldo proceeded to grab his crotch, an action that was deemed “insulting.”
In response to the incident, Nouf bin Ahmed took to Twitter to announce her intention to file a complaint with the Saudi Prosecutor’s Office, citing “crime of public indecency” as the grounds for her complaint.
According to Ahmed, deportation is the appropriate punishment for such a crime when committed by a foreigner in Saudi Arabia.
She further stated, “It’s considered a crime of public dishonor, and it is one of the crimes that entails arrest and deportation if committed by a foreigner.”
The lawyer’s decision has garnered support from some Saudis who believe that Ronaldo’s behavior was inappropriate for an international sports figure in Saudi Arabia.
However, Ronaldo’s club, Al Nassr, has explained that the gesture was a result of him receiving a blow to his genitals during the match, suggesting that it was not intentional.
