Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern side on Tuesday suffered a frustrating 1-2 defeat after Lucas Hoeler scored an injury-time penalty to earn Freiburg a place in the German cup semi-finals.
Dayot Upamecano had opened the scoring for Bayern 20 minutes into the match but was cancelled out by Nicolas Hofler’s equalizer.
Lucas Holer had sealed the win for Freiburg at 90+5 after converting from the spot, Jamal Musiala’s rough tackle in the box.
News About Nigeria gathered that Freiburg lost last year’s final on penalties to RB Leipzig but Hoeler was nerveless, converting the penalty to send his side through to the semis for the second year in a row, while Bayern has failed to reach the last four finals for the third consecutive year. Freiburg is hoping to lift the German Cup for the first time in the history of the club.
The defeat is the first for Tuchel as Bayern coach after a 4-2 victory against Borussia Dortmund over the weekend.
Tuchel signed a deal with Bayern that will run until June 2025. His move had come days after Bayern were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Leverkusen, leaving them a point behind Bundesliga leaders Dortmund.
Tuchel has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea owners in September, 2022 and had admitted that his dismissal “still hurts”
The German tactician won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 and has previously managed Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
When asked how he felt about his Chelsea successor Graham Potter’s removal in a different interview, the German said he felt no “big emotions” about it.
