A 22-year-old businessman, Abdulrazak Lawal, was arraigned in a Kado Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday, for allegedly cheating and stealing from a commercial sex worker, News About Nigeria reports.

According to the prosecution counsel, Mr Stanley Nwafoaku, the complainant, Ms Charity Joseph, reported the matter to the police after Lawal refused to pay her for her services and stole her two mobile phones worth N266,000.

Nwafoaku alleged that on January 25, Lawal approached Joseph for her services and negotiated to pay her N10,000 for the night at White House Hotel in Jabi Daki-biyu, Abuja. However, after Joseph rendered her services, Lawal refused to pay her the agreed amount and went ahead to steal her two mobile phones.

The prosecutor further informed the court that after Lawal’s arrest, he confessed to having sold the phones to one Abba, who later absconded to Katsina State at N35,000. Despite efforts to recover the phones, they were not found.

Lawal pleaded not guilty to the charge, but the judge admitted him to bail in the sum of N150,000 and one surety in like sum. The surety must provide a BVN printout, a recent passport photograph, and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.

The case has been adjourned until March 1 for a hearing.
