In a surprising turn of events, leaders of the Labour Party (LP) in the Southwest region of Nigeria have predicted that the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, will not receive more than 1,000 votes in the region, News About Nigeria reports.

These predictions come just before the collapse of the entire LP structure into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the defected leaders, the LP is not a credible party in the race to win elections, but instead is only interested in gaining financial gain. The leader of the party in the Southwest, Omotoso Banji, described the LP as a “shaky platform” before leading other leaders in the region to join the APC.

Other prominent LP leaders who defected included the party’s chairman in Osun State Tunde Omotunde, the Ekiti State counterpart Alabi Adeeyo, Ondo Secretary of LP Omowumi Olosola, and Stella Alabi from Lagos State, among others.

These defections and predictions are a significant blow to the LP and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the Southwest region is known to be a key player in the Nigerian political landscape. The collapse of the LP structure and the predictions of low voter turnout for Obi show the lack of confidence and support for the party in the region.

It remains to be seen how these developments will impact the outcome of the presidential elections. However, it is clear that the LP has suffered a major setback in the Southwest region and will have to work hard to regain the support of voters.
