The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has announced its aim to increase non-oil exports and drive economic growth in 2023.
Mrs. Iyabode Abe, the Ekiti State Coordinator of NEPC, stated that the council will continue to promote the development of non-oil exports under the leadership of its CEO, Yakussak Ezra.
In 2022, Nigeria generated over $4.82 billion from non-oil exports, which boosted the country’s Gross Domestic Product by 15%. This success was due to the council’s efforts in promoting non-oil exports and providing training programs to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to help them compete in the global market.
At a recent one-day technical and training session in Ado Ekiti, the NEPC donated two packaging machines to the Technical Incubation Centre in the capital city for use by SMEs in the state. The council is committed to stepping up efforts to promote non-oil exports through training programs that will expose SMEs to the technicalities of the export business, News About Nigeria reports.
Mrs. Abe described the population of Nigeria’s SMEs as one of the country’s greatest assets in its economic diversification agenda. She urged entrepreneurs to focus on product packaging and labeling, which are essential drivers for a sustainable marketing of made-in-Nigeria products in the export market.
The Special Adviser to Ekiti State Governor on Trade and Investment, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola, praised the NEPC for its training and donation, stating that the Biodun Oyebanji-led state government is committed to providing support and guidance to SMEs to help them upscale and increase production.
In conclusion, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council is determined to increase non-oil exports and drive economic growth in 2023. With continued efforts to promote and train SMEs, the country is well on its way to achieving this goal and securing a bright future for its economy.
