Nigerian singer-songwriter Omawumi Megbele, popularly known as Omawumi used her voice to encourage Nigerian youths to get registered to vote during the forthcoming general election.
Omawumi, who became popular for her hit single ‘In The Music’, gave a pep talk to the youths that were present at the event. The musician detailed the importance of getting a Permanent Voters Card (PVC).
According to her, PVC allows the youth to participate in Nigeria’s vital decision-making by exercising their right to vote and elect a credible leader.
“Na who you go ask if you no register to vote”, she said this while performing on stage at the just-concluded Youth Vote Count Mega Concert 2.0 held in Lagos.
News About Nigeria gathered that the event tagged, ‘Youth Vote Count 2.0 Mega Concert,’ was held on June 11th, 2022 at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos state, Nigeria. The primary goal of the concert was to create awareness of the need for youths to register and vote in the forthcoming 2023 general election.
The concert was organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), European Union and the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA).
News About Nigeria also revealed that despite the heavy downpour on that day, the turnout for the event was massive as a result of some Nigerian celebrities that were in attendance, which include Waje, Falz, MI, Broda Shaggi, Kizz Daniel, Mr. Macaroni, Teni and many more.
Furthermore, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu; Commissioner for Lagos State Resident Electoral, Olusegun Agbaje and other members of the commission were also present to grace the event.
The INEC chairman, prof. Mahmood Yakubu gave a speech at the event assuring the youths that there will be free and fair elections and their votes will surely count but first they should all go and get registered.
