Chrisland Schools

A few months after a secondary school student was killed in one of Nigeria’s elitist schools, another scandal has rocked one of the nation’s most expensive private schools, Chrisland Schools. In a shocking revelation, popular music mogul, Ubi Franklin had taken to his Twitter page on the 17th of April, 2022 to reveal that a school suspended a 10 years old student reportedly raped and videotaped by her fellow students.

He said I “Just got off the phone with a friend of mine His 10-year-old daughter was selected to represent her school at the World School Games in Dubai. His daughter was r**ped by fellow students, video tapped and posted on Instagram and the school concealed it for a month.

“He found out on his own when another parent called his wife and showed his wife the video of his 10-year-old daughter being circulated on Instagram.

“I have spent the last 1hour listening to confessional statements by some teachers and I am begging this should rather be a dream,” Ubi Franklin tweeted.

His tweets led to outcries and calls to reveal the school in question, and the students involved. However, in a turn of events, the school suspension letter addressed to the parents of the supposed 10-years old student and the video tap found their way to the social media.

“In line with our core values centered on discipline, Chrisland Schools have zero tolerance for any improper behavior and misconduct,” the letter reads.

“Consequently, [name redacted) is hereby placed on indefinite suspension until you as the parents ensure that she is punished, adequately counseled, and rehabilitated,” the school said.

News About Nigeria learnt that the supposed 10-year-old student participated in a “truth-or-dare” game in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), alongside other students that were chosen to represent Chrisland schools in the just-concluded World School Games which took place from 10th to 13th March 2022.

Checks revealed that Chrisland Schools, Children International School, and St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi were the three Nigerian schools selected to participate in the three days sports competition.

However, after light-out instructions were given, these set of students engaged in a truth or dare game that eventually led to a group sex — video tapped by one of the students. The female student initially thought to be a 10 years old girl was later discovered to be 15 years old and possibly the leader of the group going by her social media activities and actions in the now popular sex video.

The video has since put an end to the rape initially claimed by Ubi Franklin and raises concerns about deteriorating parenting in Nigeria. Ubi Franklin later disclosed he didn’t see the video before his earlier tweets, News About Nigeria has learnt.

The Lagos State Government on Monday shut down Chrisland Schools nationwide to allow for proper investigation.

“It is pertinent to note that all allegations are being investigated by the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Ministry of Education, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Justice and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, whilst the criminal allegations have been escalated to the Commissioner of Police.

“In view of the allegations, we are committed to ensuring that adequate medical and psycho-social support is provided.

“This is to reassure members of the public of the State Government’s commitment to safety and child protection, especially in ensuring that all child-centered institutions within the state, formulate and implement policies and systems that are compliant with the Executive Order (NO.EO/AA08 of 2016), Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Program.

“We also use this medium to remind the general public that any person who engages in any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a child, commits an offence and is liable to a custodial sentence of 14 years. “In the meantime, all Chrisland Schools within Lagos State are hereby closed, pending further investigations.”
