Serie A highest goal scorer Victor Osimhen, has now outpace the likes of Odion Ighalo, Samson Siasia and Ahmed Musa in Nigeria’s all-time top scorer’s chart News About Nigeria reports.

The Napoli star reached this record after a brace against Sierra Leone in Sunday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier (AFCON).

The Super Eagles qualified top of their group after a 3-2 win at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia, Liberia.

Osimhen gave Nigeria the lead with a strike 18 minutes into the game that was sparsely populated. His second came at the 32nd minute, barely 10 minutes before Mustapha Bundu responded with an opener for Sierra Leone.

Augustus Kargbo kept the hope of the Leone stars alive at the 83 minutes, hoping to secure one more goal to bring their AFCON dreams to reality but Kelechi Iheanacho denied them the opportunity with an extra time tapping that sealed the match for the Eagles.

Nigeria won four of their five AFCON qualifiers games, earning 12 points and qualified in group ‘A’ with Guinea-Bissau who came second with 10 points.

Meanwhile, Osimhen created broke another record yet again, after featuring in the game. He is now the African Highest Goal scorer in 2022/2023 with 38 goals.

He has scored 31 goals for Napoli and 7 goals for Nigeria this season and now ranks 7th with 17 goals in the country’s all-time top 11 scorer chart, ahead of Siasia Ighalo, Musa and Aghahowa.
