A yet-to-be-identified man has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for attempting to snatch an airport taxi from its owner, News About Nigeria reports.

The spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this to newsmen in the state on Wednesday.

He noted that the 35-year-old passenger attempted to snatch the airport taxi from its driver on the 11th of June, adding that the case was reported to the Alausa Police Division on June 11 by the taxi driver.

According to the police, the taxi driver stated that the suspect requested that he take him to the shrine in Agidigbi, Alausa area of Ikeja, and on the conclusion of the fare, they both started the journey to the destination.

He noted that the suspect had threatened him with a knife, from which he sustained deep cuts before good samaritans came to his rescue.

“On getting to the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, by 7UP Alausa Ikeja, the suspect, who was sitting beside him, suddenly brought out a knife from his bag and attacked him in an attempt to snatch his Toyota Camry car.

“In the process, the driver sustained a deep knife cut on his hand while trying to struggle with the suspect.

“He quickly raised an alarm, and some good Nigerians came to his rescue, while the suspect took to his heels,” Hundeyin stated.

He, however, noted that after a hot chase, the suspect was caught and arrested by the anti-crime team of the Alausa police division, adding that the car was also taken to the station as an exhibit.

Hundeyin assured the people that the investigation is ongoing and punishment will be meted out accordingly.
