On Monday, President Bola Tinubu mourned the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, who died alongside nine others in a helicopter crash.
The president also extended his condolences to the government, the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the late president’s family.
News About Nigeria had reported that President Raisi and nine others, including the Iranian foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, lost their lives on Sunday after the helicopter conveying them crashed.
The helicopter was said to have crashed due to poor weather in the mountains near the Azerbaijan border.
According to reports, the search for the president and other officials began on Sunday after the helicopter went missing but their bodies were found on Monday morning by relief workers.
In his condolence message, President Tinubu described the deceased president as a leader who was passionately committed to the development of Iran.
He also mourned other officials who died alongside the Iranian President, praying that their souls rest in peace.
Tinubu prayed for the Iranian nation’s continuous peace, stability, and prosperity, adding that Nigeria would continue to support them in this moment of grief.
The statement signed by the spokesperson to the President, Ajuri Ngelale, titled ‘President Tinubu condoles with Iran over passing of President Raisi, partly reads, “President Tinubu expresses profound grief over this disturbing tragedy, and describes President Raisi as a leader who was passionately committed to the development of Iran.”
Meanwhile, on Monday, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced five days of mourning to mourn the President and other officials.
