Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat against a top-four rival in the English Premier League, Newcastle, News About Nigeria reports.
They conceded five times in the first 21 minutes of the game.
On the score sheet for Cristian Stellini’s side were Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak, who both netted twice, as well as strikes from Joelinton and Callum Wilson.
However, Harry Kane replied with a goal but it wouldn’t have any effect on the team who look certain to miss out on a place in the Premier League’s top four after a second successive loss.
The London side is six points behind third-placed Newcastle and fourth-placed Manchester United, having played two more games than United and one more than Newcastle.
Tottenham will trade tackles next at home with Manchester United on Thursday.
The 6-1 defeat marks a new low for a club already in turmoil after Antonio Conte’s departure by “mutual consent” in March.
Before his departure, Conte had exposed the rifts behind the scenes at Tottenham when he said his players are selfish.
Conte who made the statement after a defeat to Southampton frowned at the club’s culture.
Tottenham is yet to win a major trophy since 2008 and faces the threat of a Harry Kane exit during the end-of-season summer transfer.
Fans are also unhappy with chairman Daniel Levy, who has gone through a host of unsuccessful managers since sacking the popular Mauricio Pochettino in 2019.
Contrary to Tottenham’s mishaps, Newcastle United are having the season of their dreams, a wave that would most likely take them into the Champions League for the first time since the last two decades,
