In preparation for the upcoming Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the financial requirements for its governorship aspirants, News About Nigeria reports.
According to the party’s National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammadu Arugungu, interested candidates will need to pay N50 million for the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.
Breaking down the cost, the party specified that the nomination form is priced at N40 million, while the Expression of Interest form carries a fee of N10 million.
However, female aspirants and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) will only be required to pay for the Expression of Interest form, receiving the Nomination form for free.
To encourage youth participation, people aged between 25 and 40 will be eligible for a 50% discount on the nomination form fee, provided they also submit the Expression of Interest form.
The APC claimed that these decisions align with the relevant sections of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act.
In a released schedule of activities and timetable for the 2024 election in Edo State, the party outlined key dates for the election process.
The sale of nomination and expression of interest forms, as well as the sale of delegates’ forms, will commence on the following day and run until January 29.
Aspirants must submit their completed forms and accompanying documents by February 5, with screening scheduled for February 8 and 9.
The delegates’ congress is set for February 10, and the party primary is scheduled for February 17.
Additionally, the APC announced that the campaign by its standard-bearer is expected to commence on April 24.
