On Wednesday, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, died at the age of 65.
The 8th Speaker of the House of Representatives who was born on the 27th of September, 1958, died after battling with an ailment for a long time.
News About Nigeria learnt that the late Na’Abba who battled with the ailment for a long time before passing away was once flown abroad for medical treatment and stayed there for some months before he recovered and returned to Nigeria.
The deceased, who is a prominent and respected figure in Nigerian politics, served as the Speaker of the House between 1999 and 2003.
The late Na’Abba attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied political science and graduated in 1979.
He joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and became the party’s candidate for Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, a position he won during the April 1999 general elections.
He subsequently emerged as the speaker of the House of Representatives after the political crisis that led to the exit of the first Speaker of the Fourth Republic, Salisu Buhari.
It was also gathered that in line with Islamic rites, the Late 8th Speaker of the House of Representatives would be buried today at Dan Dolo burial ground in Kano state.
The ex-speaker before his demise was a politician who was often praised as an influential Speaker of the House because of his courage, dynamism, constructive outspokenness, resolute pursuit of legislative independence, and revolutionary approach towards the running of the House during his era as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
