An Area Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced a 26-year-old man, Abdul-Alim Adam, and his friend, 23-year-old Salim Rabiu, to three months imprisonment each for stealing 11 chickens worth N44,000, News About Nigeria reports.
The judge, Mr Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convicts on Thursday after they pleaded guilty to the offence.
The convicts also begged the court for leniency, stating that they would not commit such a crime again.
In his judgment, Shawomi also gave the convicts the option of paying a N50,000 fine.
It was gathered that they had sneaked into the house of the owner of the chickens and made away with 11 of the chickens, valued at N44,000.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Monday Dabit, informed the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division police station on August 20 by Mr. Hassan Abdullahi.
According to him, the accused persons trespassed into Hassan’s compound and stole 11 chickens from their cage, which were worth N44,000.
The prosecutor also told the court that during the police investigation, the accused persons confessed to having committed the offence.
He further stated that the offence contravened the provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
