ASP Drambi Vandi

On Monday, the Lagos High Court, sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island, condemned Drambi Vandi, a suspended assistant superintendent of police, to death by hanging for the murder of Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, a lawyer from Lagos.

Delivering her judgment against the  ASP for the murder of the expectant lawyer, Justice Ibironke Harrison ruled that the prosecution had established its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

“The court finds the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead.” the judge while delivering her verdict said.

The judge also ruled that the erring officer shot his victim at close-range

News About Nigeria recalls that Vandi was arraigned before the State High Court over the death of the pregnant lawyer.

The 41-year-old pregnant lawyer was on Christmas Day in 2022 killed at the Ajah underbridge checkpoint by a police officer.

Her death however sparked outrage on social media as many Nigerians demanded that the errant officer who shot the legal practitioner dead be brought to book.

The erring officer who was attached to the Ajiwe police division in the Ajah area was suspended two days after the incident following public outcry from people of the state.

The husband, sister, police armorer, pathologist, and seven other witnesses have all testified against the defendant since the court case began in January.

However, Mr. Vandi claimed that the bullet brought in court, which is claimed to have killed the deceased, did not originate from the weapon he was carrying on the day of the incident while testifying before the court in his defence.
