Eight people lost their lives during an attack on Adu village in Plateau State’s Bassa Local Government Area, News About Nigeria gathered.

The attack occurred on the evening of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day anniversary.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Davidson Malison, confirmed the unfortunate incident in a statement issued on Monday. He also disclosed that the attack resulted in injuries to five other villagers.

Malison provided details of the attack, explaining that the assailants, and armed gunmen, arrived in Adu village around 8:10 p.m.

Under the cover of darkness, they launched a violent assault on the unsuspecting residents who were asleep at the time.

He expressed the stark contrast between the joy and celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day by many across the nation and the heart-wrenching sorrow and grief experienced by the Rigwe people in Adu village.

Malison described the attack as a continuation of the relentless violence against the Rigwe community, perpetuated by criminal elements.

He called for an immediate end to these brutal acts and expressed the determination of the Rigwe people to protect their ancestral land and preserve their way of life.

Nuhu Bitrus, the spokesman for the Miango Youths Development Association, also commented on the tragic events.

He expressed deep sorrow over the timing of the attack, which coincided with Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations.

Instead of celebrating, the community was forced to come together to arrange funerals for the victims.

Additionally, they transformed their planned celebrations into a day of prayer for the safety of their communities.
